PLUMBING LICENSE GUIDE

Plumbing License by State

Plumbing license requirements by state. Some states license plumbers statewide, others only locally. Pick your state for the board, tiers, hours, and exams.

Plumbing licensing is not the same everywhere. Some states, like Texas, license plumbers statewide through one board with clear tiers. Others, like California, license at the contractor level. And a few, like New York and Pennsylvania, have no statewide license at all and leave it to cities and counties.

Pick your state below for the governing board, the license tiers that actually exist there, and the basic path to get licensed. We are rolling these out state by state, starting with the five biggest.
